Who comes out

Our Anchorage crew works out of 2903 Tanglewood Drive, and that's where the 24/7 emergency line rings.

We do the small stuff and the big stuff here: a breaker that keeps tripping, a new panel, a generator, a charger in the garage, or the wiring for a new building.

Selling your house? We've helped Anchorage homeowners get the paperwork a sale needs for the electrical work.

Working in Anchorage

Almost all of Anchorage gets its power from Chugach Electric now. Chugach bought Municipal Light & Power in 2020, so houses that used to be on ML&P are Chugach members too.

Wind is the big one. In the January 2025 windstorm, gusts on the upper Hillside hit 85 to 100 miles an hour, and close to 25,000 Chugach members lost power at the peak. Some were still out two days later. If you're up the hill or out by Muldoon, a generator with a proper transfer switch is worth thinking about.

Plenty of Anchorage houses have been around a while. A panel that was fine when the house was built can come up short once you add a hot tub, a car charger, or a bigger kitchen. That's when a service upgrade makes sense, and in town it goes through both the Municipality and Chugach.

Then there's the cold. Driveway plug-ins for block heaters, heat trace on roofs and gutters, and garage heaters all add load to circuits that may already be busy.

Power and permits

Chugach Electric

Power out? If the neighbors are dark too, call Chugach at 907-762-7888 or check their outage map. If it's just your house, or part of it, call us.

New or bigger service: Chugach starts with an engineering request and wants the rating of your old and new equipment. They won't connect until the work passes the Municipality's inspection and has a green tag number.

Permits and inspections

Municipality of Anchorage

Permits and inspections go through the Municipality's Development Services office on Elmore Road.

Inside the Building Safety Service Area, which covers most of the Anchorage Bowl, work needs a permit and inspection unless the code says it's exempt. Part of the Hillside sits outside that area, where the rules are different. When a job needs a permit, we pull it and set up the inspection.

Our services

We're a Qmerit Certified Solutions Partner for EV chargers, and Tesla certified.

“We’ve used three different electricians since we moved into our home in Anchorage, and we really wish we had found Supreme Electric first. They have especially been helpful during this time that we are selling our home and require much more thorough documentation of the work being done. They communicate well between the electricians and the office staff, which can be tricky for many contractors.”

Anchorage questions

My power's out. Do I call you or Chugach?

Look outside first. If the neighbors are out too, it's probably the grid, so call Chugach at 907-762-7888 or check their outage map. If it's only your house, or only some rooms, it's likely something on your side of the meter. That's us, and our emergency line is answered any hour.

Can I plug my portable generator into the house?

Not without a transfer switch. Without one, the generator can push power back out onto the lines, which can hurt the crews working on them. Chugach says a generator connected to a house needs a transfer switch put in by a qualified electrician. We install those, along with an outside inlet so you can plug in without running cords through a door.

How does a service upgrade work with Chugach?

We size the new service and do the work. Chugach needs an engineering request with the old and new ratings, and they won't hook it back up until it passes the Municipality's inspection. Once it has a green tag, the number goes to Chugach's new service desk and they schedule the connection.

I'm selling my house and the inspection flagged electrical items. Can you help?

Yes. We fix what the report calls out and give you paperwork that shows what was done.
